The word on the street? You’ll have to look on social media for that! Love it or hate it, platforms such as Instagram and TikTok are the new go-to for travel inspiration, and Titan Travel has done the groundwork to find out exactly where’s trending right now.
The tour booking platform has analysed three years’ worth of Instagram, TikTok and Google search data, from May 2021 to April 2024, and compiled a new Social Travel Index which reveals the most popular countries on the planet.
Topping the list, it’s Japan, which has been given a social travel index score of 8.87 thanks to the staggering 703,900 searches that have been made over the last three years – that’s an increase of 79.71 percent.
In second place is India, which has soared ahead with the number of Instagram posts (268,034,839) and TikToks (58,300,000), earning it an index score of 8.41, and in third place its Canada, which has seen the highest number of Google searches at 737,600.
