Whether you’re heading to a lovely beach resort, a gorgeous lakeside villa or buzzing party-friendly city, famous holiday destinations can be fantastic, but often fall at the higher end of our travel budgets.

How do we fix this? By finding some brilliant destination dupes, of course! And TikTok is a great place to start. In fact, many of us already have, with cheaper alternatives to popular holiday spots and services already being viewed a staggering 6 billion times on the video platform.

‘Travel dupes’ are destinations that offer similar experiences and aesthetics but at a much less eye-watering price, so which cheap swaps are the most popular on the platform right now?

Well, if heading to Sydney is feeling like a bit of a squeeze, it looks like Perth is your next best bet. Western Australia’s capital enjoys more hours of sun than any other Australian capital, and brags a calmer atmosphere and plenty of beaches that are just as stunning as Sydney’s.

Santorini is one of the most iconic Greek islands, but also one of the most expensive. Paros looks like a good alternative, thanks to having more space, more beaches, but plenty of cute white villages, too.

As for an alternative to Paris, why not have a look at Bruges? The tiny Belgian town is known for waterways and cobbled streets, and the centre is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Paris, who?
