What is Nobody Wants This about?

In short, the romcom series tells the story of an unexpected romance between podcast host Joanne (Bell) and ‘Hot Rabbi’ Noah (Brody) after the pair strike up an instant romantic connection at a party.

Over the course of the season’s ten episodes, the pair navigate how to balance their different lifestyles, with Joanne deciding whether she will convert to Judaism to be with Noah, and if his family will ever accept her.

Who is Erin Foster?

Erin Foster is the creator of Nobody Wants This and the series is based on her own life experiences and marriage.

Don’t recognise the name? Foster is the daughter of music producer David Foster and former model Rebecca Dyer. A long-time TV stalwart on both sides of the camera, she kickstart her acting career with roles in Gilmore Girls, CSI, and The O.C., and later served as a writer on Ryan Murphy’s The New Normal

Is Nobody Wants This based on a true story?

Absolutely! Nobody Wants This is based on show creator Erin Foster’s own experiences of dating and her relationship with husband Simon Tikhman.

Just like in the series, Erin hosts her own podcast with sister Sara, called The World’s First Podcast.

Names have been changed in the series, and some plot points differ from reality. Most prominent of all the changes is Erin’s husband actually works in the music industry and isn’t a rabbi, but the storyline of Joanne converting to Judaism is true to life.

Speaking on her own podcast, Erin explained that she based the character of Noah entirely on her husband because she wanted the role to be ‘emotionally available, chivalrous, old-fashioned… but also really funny and confident.’

Who’s in the cast?

Kristen Bell (Frozen) and Adam Brody (The O.C.) lead the cast as Joanne and Noah.

Morgan, Joanne’s sister and podcast co-host is played by Justine Lupe (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).

Timothy Simons (Veep, Don’t Worry Darling) takes on the role of Noah’s brother, with Jackie Tohn (Glow) as his wife Esther.

Broadway legend Tovah Feldshuh plays Bina, Noah’s disapproving mother. Her screen credits include The Walking Dead, Law and Order, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Will there be a season 2?

Events of the finale episode definitely leave things open for a follow-up, and while Netflix are yet to officially green light a second season, Foster is feeling confident about a return.

‘We’re getting a really positive response,’ Foster tells IndieWire. ‘And so I think the conversations have definitely started to happen about a potential season two.’

‘The story in season one unfolds really slowly. So I think if there is a season two I would want to just kind of pick up where we leave off and continue to take it slow, because I don’t want us to get too far ahead of ourselves.’

‘I want my show to be on the air as long as possible!’
