Queueing: Brits are experts at it, and airports are hotspots for it. It’s the inevitably boring but necessary slog of any journey. Check-in, bag drop, security checks, border control, boarding, baggage collection and customs — the list of places you need to queue at an airport is almost as long as the queues themselves. But when minutes turn to hours, queueing can go from being vaguely annoying to downright soul-destroying.
As international travel continues to bounce back, airports have struggled to handle the increased demand for flights, causing travel chaos the past few summers. And with increased passenger numbers comes the potential for extensive delays.
To help travellers plan ahead, holiday home rental company Casago has compiled a best and worst list for airports in terms of their queueing times, using customer reviews from airlinequality.com.
Each review gave a score of one to five stars on queue times, and these were analysed to produce a comprehensive ranking of airports, which were then organised by continent.
According to this research, Belgrade airport in Serbia is the best-rated airport for queue times, with 66.67 percent of its reviews being positive.
The worst? That would be Grenoble Alpes Isere Airport in France, with a dismal 1.59 percent of four- or five-star ratings. What’s more, it’s not only the worst in Europe, but across the world. In fact, both France and the UK occupy three spots on the worst in Europe list, and France’s are all within the worst five!
Here are the best airports in Europe for queuing, according to Casago:
- Belgrade Airport, Serbia
- Helsinki Vantaa Airport, Finland
- Stuttgart Airport, Germany
- Malta International Airport, Malta
- Porto Airport, Portugal
- Ireland West Knock Airport, Ireland
- Athens International Airport, Greece
- Zurich Airport, Switzerland
- London Southend Airport, UK
- Kiev Borispol Airport, Ukraine
And on the flip side, here are the worst airports in Europe for queueing, according to Casago:
- Grenoble Alpes Isere Airport, France
- Berlin Brandenburg Airport, Germany
- Bordeaux Airport, France
- Paris-Beauvais Airport, France
- London Stansted Airport, UK
- London Luton Airport, UK
- Heraklion International Airport, Greece
- Belfast International Airport, UK
- Brussels South Charleroi Airport, Belgium
- Geneva Airport, Switzerland
