Puglia, a southeastern region that makes up the heel of Italy’s ‘boot’, is fast becoming one of the country’s most up-and-coming destinations. And it’s becoming more and more accessible to reach, too, as Italy’s national rail operator has launched a series of brand-new train routes between Puglia and other popular Italian cities.

First there was the launch of this new night train travelling the length of the country, and now another sleeper service has begun carting travellers from Rome to Lecce, a city in Puglia. The train, named the Espresso Salento, is the latest addition to Italy’s newly-launched vintage train routes, FS Treni Turistici Italiani.

Offering a luxurious take on a night train, passengers have the chance to book exclusive sleeper carriages and enjoy both breakfast and dinner in the restaurant car, and there’s plenty of luggage storage, even for the excessive packers among us.

The sleeping berths are also available to book as four- or six-bed couchettes, so there’s an option for families wanting to share a cabin.

So what does the route actually look like? Well, depending on your direction of travel, the list of stops is Rome, Caserta, Foggia, Bari Centrale, Polignano, Monopoli, Fasano, Ostuni, Carovigno, Brindisi and Lecce.

And as for the departure dates, those are as follows:

  • From Rome: August 13 and 22
  • From Lecce: July 26, August 14 and 23

To promote this brand new service, there’s a 50 percent discount running at the moment – have a look at the details of that right here
