No, it’s not some extraterrestrial colony – this huge, domino-inspired tower is a new island resort off the coast of Zanzibar.
The incredible building does look something from big-budget sci-fi, but soon you could be sipping on a cocktail and enjoying the sunset here among fellow humans. It’s been designed by Jean-Paul Cassia, of architecture firm xCassia. He apparently got the idea after playing dominoes with his family, which sounds a lot more productive than any time we’ve played a board game.
The tower will be built on a four million-square-foot island, linked by a bridge to the west coast of Zanzibar. Plans for the man-made isle include a marina, exhibition space, an aquarium and a conference centre. Beats that daily Zoom call, eh?
The ‘outer spiral’ will have a food court, a yacht club and the all-important infinity pool. Not content with just being a holiday destination, it will also have residential accommodation for locals (including four helipads, obvs.)
Most excitingly, ‘in a sweeping descent from the top-down, all hotel and residential units will have spectacular outer terraces oriented south-southwest for stunning views of Stone Town, the coastline and ethereal Zanzibar sunsets’, according to an xCassia spokesperson.
It’s thought to be the second-tallest tower in the world, meaning the views will be properly amazing. So, could this be the most OTT island resort on the planet, like, ever? Quite possibly.
