Want to fill all that anxious silence with something worth listening to? Head over to BBC Sounds where you can soothe your earholes with great books read by entertaining voices – all for free.

You can listen to bookshelf bucket-list classics like ’Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’, ‘Frankenstein’, ‘Wuthering Heights’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘War of the Worlds’ and ‘Jane Eyre’.

You can also catch some more modern audiobook titles, like ‘Hunger’ by Roxanne Gay, ‘So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed’ by Jon Ronson and ‘Queenie’ by Candice Carty-Williams. Check out ‘Adults’ by Emma Jane Unsworth read by actress Jessica Raine and Michelle Gallen’s ‘Big Girl, Small Town’, read by ‘Derry Girls’ star Nicola Coughlan.

Many of the books are abridged, but that just means you’ll be able to consume the stories quicker.

Listened to them all? Check out BBC Sounds’ selection of podcasts too. You can get free access to hundreds of investigative journalism, comedy, games and storytelling podcasts.
