There’s nothing like a good European city break. World-class culture, beautiful architecture, delicious food, fun nightlife – there are loads of things that go into making a city a great place to visit, but if you feel like the locals would rather you stayed at home, it can make your trip feel a little tense.
We get it – tourists can be really annoying. But you’re one of the good ones, right? And you’d like to go somewhere where visitors are welcomed with open arms. Handily, the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards has just released a list of Europe’s friendliest cities, as voted by its readers. From Eastern Europe to the Mediterranean, there are (as we suspected) friendly cities all over the place.
Claiming the crown as the most hospitable of them all, however, is Stockholm. The Swedish capital scored an impressive 94.07. Swedes do have a rep for their politeness and cheer, so we’re hardly surprised.
In second place it was Budapest, which scored 91.88, and in third place it was Valencia, which scored 91. Interestingly, the cities on this year’s list are completely different to those named the friendliest last year.
