Do you love books? And do you love sunshine? Well, if the answer to both of those questions is hell yes, then, boy, do we have the dream job for you. A luxury resort on an island paradise in the Maldives is looking for someone to run its bookshop.
Not only will the successful applicant get to live and work on the Maldives, earning a not-too-bad $750 (£620) per month, but they’ll also get to stay in accommodation provided by the resort for an entire year.
The shop is on Soneva Fushi, a resort on Kunfunadhoo island in the Maldives’ Baa Atoll, and the job involves running the bookstore pretty much entirely yourself, from welcoming guests and providing recommendations to keeping stock. Because Kunfunadhoo has a rule of ‘no shoes, no news’ – it’s an isolated island dedicated to getting away from everyday stresses – you’ll be known as a ‘barefoot bookseller’.
The posting is, as you can probably guess, both very chilled-out and quite lonesome. The ideal candidate will likely require some level of bookselling or publishing experience.
But if you can handle the isolation and relaxed pace of life, you’ll get loads of rewards. Soneva Fushi is slap-bang in the middle of the Baa Atoll Unesco Biosphere Reserve, an area renowned for its lush jungle, pristine beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters.
If all this sounds like your cuppa tea (and, to be honest, we’d be worried if it didn’t), you’ll need to be free to start the job in October. You can find out more about the bookshop and get in contact here.
