Renée Zellweger’s Bridget is back and that means more emotional baggage, more hilarious antics, and a new batch of certified bangers for an all-new soundtrack.

The Bridget Jones soundtracks have become almost as popular as the film series itself.

A sort of Mount Rushmore of British pop music, the soundtracks have featured the likes of Geri Halliwell, Gabrielle, Jamelia and Robbie Williams, to name just a few.

When the third Bridget Jones movie landed in 2016, efforts were made to give the soundtrack a more contemporary edge, with Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding giving popular – if slightly uninspired – efforts.

No surprise then, that the fourth instalment, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, continues the trend of blending iconic jazz standards with young pop A-listers like London’s homegrown talents Jessie Ware and RAYE

Who is in the cast?

Renée Zellweger returns as Bridget, her first big screen role since winning the Oscar for Best Actress in 2019’s Judy Garland biopic Judy.

Hugh Grant is back as Daniel Cleaver, once Bridget’s boss and love interest and previously assumed dead following a plane crash.

Leo Woodall is Roxster, the ‘boy’ of the title who soon has Bridget swooning. Woodall is best known for his roles in The White Lotus and Netflix drama One Day.

Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as Mr Wallaker, a teacher at Bridget’s children’s school and a potential new love interest for Ms Jones. Ejiofor is no stranger to a romcom having starred in genre-defining hit Love Actually in 2003, before his award-winning turn in 12 Years a Slave and joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Doctor Strange movies.

British acting legend Emma Thompson returns as Doctor Rawlings, while Bridget’s parents are once again portrayed by Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones.

Will there be a fifth Bridget Jones movie?

Highly unlikely. But both the author and star have teased future instalments with writer Helen Fielding giving a ‘Never say never’ response, and actress Zellwegger saying she had her ‘fingers crossed’ for a fifth outing.
