Train rides can be romantic, nostalgic, and, best of all, a leisurely way to see the country this summer without having to worry about gas prices or actually driving. And if a month spent criss-crossing the country by rail sounds pretty damn good right now, we have just the deal for you. Enter the Amtrak USA Rail Pass.
The rail pass, which Amtrak relaunched this month with a discounted price of $299 (40 percent off its usual price of $499!), allows travelers to spend a whole month traversing the United States on Amtrak trains for one flat-rate fee.
Specifically, the pass allows you to book ten different ride segments in a 30-day period for the price of the ticket. According to Amtrak, a segment of a trip ends when a passenger gets off a train, so a trip with a connection would count as two segments. But that's still plenty of wiggle room to make it from coast to coast – Amtrak's longest direct routes can cover more than 1,000 miles.
The USA Rail Pass is also only good for coach seats and doesn't let passengers upgrade to premium accommodations like sleeper cabins or first-class seats. But at only $30 per train ride, you didn't expect that much luxury, did you?
Buyers have 120 days to book trips using their rail pass after purchasing it, but you only have 30 days from the date of your first trip to use all ten segments.
