From the National Museum of Romanticism to the Sorolla Museum, Madrid is home to some cracking art galleries and museums (no wonder it was recently ranked one of the world’s best cities for culture). And excitingly, a brand new museum all about Spanish architecture has just been added to the city’s cultural offering.
The House of Architecture is located in Paseo de la Castellana, in what’s known as the Arquería de Nuevos Ministerios (a part of one of the buildings in the Ministry of Transport).
The museum is dedicated to displaying the best of Spanish architecture, documenting its past as well as anticipating its future, along with information about urban planning and landscaping in Spain. Here’s a snap of the museum’s interior – looks pretty impressive, right?
To kick things off, the museum will be hosting three exhibitions, plus an audiovisual installation. ‘The construction of the country’ tours visitors through the history of buildings built in Spain with a display of 65 models.
The second, ‘Zip Ecosystem, New Processes, New Architects’ shows visitors the work of a whopping 300 architecture studios, through their collaborations and sources of inspiration.
The third? It’s called ‘Nameless Model’ and it presents a collection of models by Barcelona architecture firms that have been opened over the last 10 years.
Organisers are hopeful that in the future, the space for exhibitions and displays available will double in size.
Heading to Madrid soon? Take a look at this list of the very best museums in the city, and when you’re done exploring those, head to one of these excellent tapas bars.
