Bahrain is a fascinating destination, boasting everything from ancient archaeological ruins to a glistening modern skyline, and excitingly, the island’s capital will soon be home to a brand-new Time Out Market. Here’s what we know about it so far.

Time Out Market Bahrain will be located in City Centre Bahrain, a shopping centre near Manama’s Water Garden City. The main entrance will be through Le Meridien Hotel, and the site will have enough space for a whopping 900 seats over its two levels.

On offer will be 11 kitchens, two bars, a dessert counter, coffee shop, exhibition space, a stage and an al fresco rooftop.

But how are the chefs, bartenders and baristas selected? Well, Time Out Market’s ethos is all about showcasing the best of the local area. The team compiles a list of cuisines that are most integral to the city, and then scours around for the most talented culinary representatives for each one. The result is a sparkling collection of much-loved local chefs and up-and-coming talent.

And the first five kitchens have already been announced. Villa Mamas by Roaya Saleh offers modern Middle Eastern cuisine, By Mirai will be serving exquisite Japanese dishes, Ô Liban’s expertise is in contemporary Lebanese food, while Banu is one of the best Iranian restaurants in Bahrain. For dessert, Florencia Ice Cream’s artisanal sorbets will be on the menu.

If that all didn’t sound tempting enough, there’s some exciting news from Time Out Market Bahrain’s general manager Ian Russell: ‘As part of our curation for Time Out Market Bahrain we have discovered incredible female chefs and restaurateurs. In fact, this Market is set to have the highest share of top female culinary talents across all of our existing Markets around the world.’

The Market is due to open later this year, though a specific date will be confirmed nearer the time. To keep track of all the exciting info as it’s announced, keep an eye on the Time Out Market Bahrain page here
