Europe’s train travel revival is going nowhere – just check out all these new sleeper services we’re looking forward to riding this year. And now, following the news of a revived route between Paris and Milan, it looks like the French capital will be getting another high-speed link, this time to the Bavarian capital of Munich.
There’s already a train between Paris and Berlin, courtesy of German operator Deutsche Bahn and France’s SNCF, but the two companies are keen to expand international connections across Europe. Munich is one of many German cities the rail operators have their eye on.
Why? Well, because the Paris to Berlin route has been so successful. According to The Local France, Deutsche Bahn board member Michael Peterson said: ‘We have above-average advance bookings for the first quarter and the average occupancy rate of the trains is very high.’
‘The boom in international long-distance transport proves that people also want to travel across borders by climate-friendly rail – and are willing to accept longer journey times to do so, as the success of the Berlin-Paris or Frankfurt-Marseille connections shows,’ he continued.
And we don’t have long to wait, as the route is due to launch by the end of 2026, which ties in well with the opening of Stuttgart’s upgraded train station, according to Railway Supply.
Exciting, isn’t it? Stay tuned for more information on the exact launch date and tickets.
Did you see that After a two-year wait, these two European cities will finally be connected by direct train?
