As The Big Smoke’s green belt struggles to contain the frenetically sprawling capital, most Londoners barely get a chance to reflect on their near-extinct relationship with nature. Karl Hyde – one half of Underworld, the British electronic music duo – poetically narrates this descriptive journey, from the River Roding in North Essex to the docks at the Thames Estuary.
Focusing on forgotten places along the borderlands and the interesting characters living within them, ‘The Outer Edges’ charts the changes London has undergone. The film maintains a sense of introspectiveness throughout, but at times it’s so abstract you may start to feel a little disorientated.
