Time Out says

Reversing the fish out water Beverly Hills Cop routine, helium-voiced Tucker is brought to Hong Kong, cue gags about Asians' lack of stature and the American's imperfect command of Cantonese. The plot involves counterfeit smuggling, with a sketchy revenge motive thrown in. Isn't there a knacker's yard for lame old scenarios like this? If things pick up for the Las Vegas climax, that's down to the stunt choreography being far more imaginative than anything the screenwriters came up with. Except, perhaps, for Tucker's brilliant philosophy of crime detection. 'Follow the rich white man,' he says, cutting to the chase. Certainly it's refreshing to see a Hollywood movie with no concern for white sensibilities. The movie also gets points for its sexy villains: John Lone and Crouching Tiger's Zhang Ziyi, not quite making her English-speaking debut. But the laughs come louder and longer during the end credit out-takes than in the movie proper.
