Pawn Shop Chronicles: movie review

Time Out says

A Southern-fried would-be Pulp Fiction, the latest from director Wayne Kramer (The Cooler) follows the less-than-riotous adventures of various hayseeds linked by their dealings with the titular establishment. A meth-lab robbery gone wrong, a man (Matt Dillon) discovering a silo full of naked women and the adventures of a down-on-his-luck Elvis impersonator (Brendan Fraser) are each played for condescending laughter, empty shock value and/or low-rent surrealism. But these stories collectively amount to little more than a portrait of rural life as a redneck nightmare wherein people are very stupid or very evil. Only one gag (involving a town’s rival barbers) sticks; the rest is just whistlin’ Dixie.
