Not, as you might expect, a movie celebrating blue notes and syncopation; rather, it’s an urban drama about a young dancer (Chamblee) and her sister, Jazz (Cameron), who’s trying to make it as a singer in a gem-shaped neighborhood in Washington, D.C. Jazz in the Diamond District is a low-budget, novice affair. What partially redeems it is the genuine chemistry the cast members share when playing their music. Otherwise, Jazz is just another reefer-ridden, albeit earnest, tale of love, loss and evil New Yorkers taking advantage.
