Proceeding from a horrific incident, matter-of-factly recounted – a little boy’s death in a burning car – this Finnish debut sifts the psychic wreckage as his parents and brother struggle through the first inchoate, emotionally violent stages of their grief. Having already raised red flags for hinging on a child’s ghastly death, the movie unfortunately keeps piling on the tragedy, introducing and then abruptly dropping the childhood loss of mum’s little sister and even playing gotcha with grandpa’s expiration date.
