Two lads get more than they bargained for in this fitfully amusing British comedy-horror. Writer-director Danny Morgan stars as Jim, a sweet, shy bloke on the eve of his 30th birthday. His best mate Alex is a complete idiot, but at least he is funny, and he is played by the entertaining Michael Socha (‘Being Human’). When the pair meet two sexy sisters (Georgia Groome and Kelly Wenham) in a bar, Jim suspects it’s all too good to be true, and he’s right. These sirens are intent on luring men to their spooky mansion to murder them in an occultish ritual.
It’s here that Alex’s idiocy comes in handy for the plot: he persuades Jim to blindly ignore the warning signs, purchase mind-numbing drugs and go on a double date that could end in bloodshed. While the sisters’ relationship with each other is touched upon, this is mostly laddish and borderline sexist: Alex’s misogyny is pushed a bit far for laughs at times. But Jim’s essential niceness mostly compensates, and when this is gory it goes for it.
