“We lived our little drama,” goes the song “Stars Fell on Alabama,” and this Huntsville-set, deeply earnest reconciler is filled with quite a few of them. The funeral of beloved Carmel Boxer (Union, frequently speaking from beyond the grave), spurned 50 years ago by a white boy, reunites old lovers, tetchy half siblings and home-wrecking friends. The flashbacks are almost as smoothly subtle as the title of one of the paintings showcased by Billy Dee Williams’s character: Portrait of a Journey.
