Bucky Larson lives a sheltered life. Growing up in Iowa, he's never seen sushi or convertibles, and he doesn't understand complex concepts like birth control or English language slang. Nevertheless, when Bucky (Swardson) learns his parents were porn stars, he heads to Hollywood to enter the family business. Born to Be a Star isn't funny, but maybe that's the point. After all, its hero becomes an adult film icon despite his big buck teeth and a little problem with premature ejaculation. So perhaps the inept humor is just one facet of a larger tribute to ineptitude---a cinematic celebration of inadequacy. Oh, who am I kidding? This movie is dire, soul-crushing stuff.
