UCLA graduate Kaju (Sensharma) returns to India, the country of her
birth, and discovers that her adoptive family hasn’t told her the full
truth about what happened to the biological parents she never knew.
Subjected to censorship in India for raising the issue of government
complicity in the wave of anti-Sikh violence that followed the 1984
assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Amu
effectively grounds its political concerns in Kaju’s credible struggle
for identity. Still, the movie has its share of wobbly moments, and the
resolution feels a bit like a cop-out.
