A film about time: a writer, unable to finish his book, loses himself in memories, dreams, fantasies. Though elegantly shot in an oneiric, measured, not to say ploddingly slow style vaguely reminiscent of Tarkovsky, Angelopoulos and Antonioni, this very 'Zen' study in alienation looks more like a student exercise than the work of a 38-year-old professor of cinema. Beneath the emphatically arty veneer there lies little but empty clichés. (The director later expanded the film into a 113 minute feature.
