Usually the announcement of a new happy hour gets just a cursory glance. You simply scan it and see that the menu cuts a couple bucks off a handful of appetizers and a couple of drinks.
But what Scotch 80 Prime just announced was eye opening. The venerable Palms steakhouse introduced a massive twice-nightly summerlong menu that slashes prices in half for some of the restaurant’s top-selling items. You’ll find 8-ounce steaks (filet mignon or rib-eye) for just over $30, miso-glazed Chilean sea bass for $27 and a lobster tail for $25, for example.
In all, there are 17 dishes of “half price happiness” on the menu including some chef Marty Lopez signatures like beef tartare crispy rice and shrimp toast using Hokkaido milk bread, which was my favorite dish of the bunch.
Scotch 80 Prime, already a destination neighborhood steakhouse, is using the twice daily deal to draw in locals and reintroduce the off-Strip restaurant during the slower summer months.
Lopez called it a “value-driven, greatest hits” menu and emphasized that no shortcuts are being taken. “This is like pricing from 10 years ago,” Lopez said at a tasting. “It’s the same high-end quality dishes we offer for dinner. We just want you to enjoy them a little bit earlier and get more bang for your buck.”
Lopez said they selected the top dishes in every category—from raw bar, salads and sides to wood-fire grilled prime steaks, fish and seafood—for the condensed menu.
The Social Hour menu is offered Monday through Thursday from 5 to 6:30pm and again from 8:30 to 10pm. Half price items are indicated with the Scotch 80 logo next to them. You can view the entire Social Hour menu below.
