Growing up in Massachusetts, I would spend part of every summer on Cape Cod so I’ve had my share of tasty lobster boils. As an East Coast transplant here in the desert, I miss those carefree days on the beach taking in the salty air and pulling the contents of the boil out of a steaming pot.
Luckily, this month Tailgate Social took me back to my childhood when it added a traditional New England lobster boil to its menu. Located just off-Strip inside the Palace Station Casino, the sports bar celebrates each summer with its version of the boil.
It’s an entire Maine lobster—weighing in at roughly a pound and a half—served with littleneck clams, andouille sausage, corn on the cob, a handful of red bliss potatoes and melted butter for dipping. Bibbed diners use a cracker to extract the lobster meat. It’s messy and hard work but worth the effort. And priced at $26 it’s an affordable find for lobster lovers.
The deal is set to expire at the end of July but we’re hoping for an endless summer extension. For those who don’t want to work for their dinner, Tailgate Social has a lobster roll ($21) on the menu as well.
Lobster can be found on the menu of many Strip restaurants, often set at market price. Two of our other favorite lobster locales are at the Palms Casino where you can get a half-price lobster tail ($25) during Scotch 80 Social Hour or dive into an all-you-can-eat lobster dinner buffet ($64.99) at the A.Y.C.E Buffet every Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 9pm.
Another affordable option is Angie’s Lobster, which is scheduled to open August 2 on Blue Diamond Road. The menu is flush with lobster rolls from traditional takes—hot or cold—to a spicy honey fried version all under $10.99.
