The second condo-hotel to open in Las Vegas (the first was the Residences at the MGM Grand), this impressive property sits within a five-minute walk of the Strip. It’s conveniently close, but the location also allows it to retain a welcome sense of distance. Free of both gambling and smoking, the Platinum is a refuge from the madness mere meters away: perfect for the residents who snapped up many of its 255 suites and now live here part-time, but also great for visitors keen on retaining their sanity while those all around are losing theirs. It’s a well-run operation, free of bustle but retaining a certain urban style in its restaurant, relaxed ground-floor bar and fabulously appointed spa. And the suites themselves are both spacious (the bathrooms in some suites are bigger than guestrooms at a couple of hotels in town) and handsome, done out with high-spec amenities and comfy beds. The cannily designed indoor-outdoor pool on the fifth floor is another nice touch in a property that’s quietly full of them.
