1. Lonely Hearts: Singles’ Fest

Single? Not for long, especially if the good folks of Take The Leap have it their way. ICYMI, the city’s speed dating experts are organising what they’re dubbing “the largest” singles’ mixer this Valentine’s Day weekend, featuring 50 men and 50 women between the ages of 21 to 39 years old. There will be an ice-breaking session, activity booths, and “conversation corners” for participants to find their tribe. By popular request, it’s a non-halal speed dating event, i.e. alcoholic drinks will be served, and it’s being held at Curious Kitchen, a restaurant famed for pork ribs. This one’s strictly for all the Gen Zs aged between 18 and 30 who can’t find love. DEL’CS, the fashion label born in Taman Paramount, is organising Love Island, an IRL reality television-themed matchmaking event for like-minded singles featuring mini-challenges and games such as limbo to win ‘villa cash’ to be used in The Love Auction. It’s a whole thing. You might meet the love of your life. Or maybe it’s a chance to mingle with a new gang of people and have a laugh.

If gift-giving is your love language, go to The Godown this Valentine’s weekend for a celebration of arts and crafts, all made with love. What to expect: 30 artist vendors peddling batik pillows, jewellery, hand-painted trinket dishes and more, coffee by Point Blank, food, talks and workshops, including an abstract landscape embroidery workshop.

4. Valentine’s Day Special at KL Comedy Corner

Celebrating love doesn’t have to be capital-R Romance complete with a candlelit dinner and 99 red roses. If you and your date think humour is hot, hit up KL Comedy Corner to get those giggle-induced endorphins flowing. The comedy club’s Valentine’s weekend special will feature the one and only Russell Curtis, Malaysian singer-songwriter-turn-comedian (also founder of KL Comedy Corner). Expect a blend of soulful tunes with side-splitting comedy from the singing comedian.

The Block Party and Saturday Selects take over kyō on the eve of Valentine’s Day, transforming it into Hotel Amour in celebration of all things love. If not, we’ll clue you in: it’s fono’s monthly tribute to all sorts of dance-able music, from disco to Latin funk, African rhythms to post-punk, jazz fusion, and dub-by psychedelia. This month’s edition magically coincides with Valentine’s Day; what better excuse to take yourself out dancing or to sweep your lover off their feet. 8. Vintage Heart Cake Decorating Workshop

For a hands-on, super sweet Valentine’s Day, sign up for LLEBEURRE’s cake decorating workshop at AREA 33’s Love Fest market in Kedai. Pipe your own 4-inch heart-shaped cake using the vintage method, also known as Lambeth style. The cake, buttercream, and decorating supplies will be provided. Bonus: learn a new skill. Another bonus: you can have your cake and eat it too! 

The workshop is beginner-friendly, and you can go it alone as a Galentine’s Day activity or with a partner. Post-workshop, be sure to explore the market for some bites, shopping, single-and-mingle events, and more.
