When putting together a list of the best documentaries on Netflix, we decided to exclude any that weren’t made by the streaming giant themselves. Why? Because Netflix are really, really good at making docs. Simple.
The ones that make the biggest splash are their often excellent true crime originals. However, when analysing the best Netflix documentaries, we made a bold statement: Chef's Table is the best of the lot. That’s not to say that there aren’t true crime documentaries on our list. But joining them is a wide selection of documentaries that vary in theme and scope, touching on everything from food to technology and social justice. With that in mind, here are our picks of the best documentaries streaming on Netflix right now.
