It's a telling fact that even when the entire country was under lockdown, exceptions were made for physical exercise – we just weren't made to sit still. And, blessed with spectacular cliffs, nature reserves and sporting facilities, Brisbane is an outdoorsy city if ever there was one. From bridge climbs to secret swimming holes, here are ten great ways to keep active in Brisbane.

  • Parks and gardens

Nothing completes a hike through the rainforest like a relaxing swim in a cool, clear swimming hole surrounded by nature. If hiking isn’t your scene, fear not. There are also beautiful, historic dams just outside the city where you can skip the hike and take a dip in the calm waters and just laze around on the grass in the sunshine.

  • Kangaroo Point

There are a dozen different companies offering climbing and abseiling along the Kangaroo Point cliffs, and there’s no mystery why it’s so popular. Best in the early morning or evening out of the harsh Queensland sun, the cliffs offer views of a beautiful stretch of the Brisbane River from the top.
