Brisbane's well-known Story Bridge has been connecting Kangaroo Point with Fortitude Valley since the 1940s. The construction of the cantilever bridge originally helped provide employment for men during the Great Depression. For a view over the river you can walk or cycle over Story Bridge, or if you're not afraid of a little vertigo you can climb the bridge. It’s definitely not for the faint-of-heart though it’s arguably one of the best ways to see the city. Punters get an information session on the history of the bridge before starting a climb that can be timed for dawn or dusk. You'll ascend a spiral stairways then be connected to a climb line. At the peak, you’ll be 80 metres above sea level and on one of the few climbable bridges in the world. Climbs go ahead in all weather conditions and prices start at $80.
