You may want to sit down, we’re going to say something bold. We think that the interior of the Rainbow Pub may just qualify as the best-looking boozer in Brum. Stripped-back brickwork, enormous stained glass windows, over-sized vintage mirrors and some suitably dim lighting combine to make us rather enthusiastic about the Rainbow’s refurb.
With the arrival of retro games consoles and a custom-built Doctor Who Tardis, a young, hipster crowd has staged a Rainbow takeover in recent years. And though the occasional Strongbow-swigging rough and ready session boozer can still be found wondering if he is in the right place, we’re in the majority in being happy to experience the measured gentrification of this fine upgrade to Digbeth’s High Street.
A less remarkable drinks list than a number of our pub offering makes the Rainbow more about experience than the utter adoration of booze. But with DJs, whole building graffiti war link-ups with big brother venue, the Rainbow Warehouse and its proximity to some serious players in the rave scene, the Rainbow pulls it off without breaking what would undoubtedly be a rather stylish sweat.
