It doesn't take much to convince even the grouchiest Berliner to sit down for a nice slice of cake and a cup of coffee and at Mitte's Princess Cheesecake, where the art of the kuche has been elevated into something approaching cult status. As the name would imply, Princess Cheesecake specialises in soft, sweet, airy creations, lovingly prepared and available in gluten-free, low-sugar variants, just to ensure everyone's happy. Made with fresh, organic ingredients, the cheesecakes and homemade ganaches are fantastic, if sometimes a little OTT. Try a classic baked cheesecake or one of the more adventurous numbers such as ‘Mi Cariño Suave’, laden with candied almonds and toffee and topped with quark cream. Service can be a little hit and miss at times and the tiny café can fill up dramatically fast, with Berliners jonesing for a slab of sweetness. But if you can get there early, kick back, relax, and savour the flavours.
