Forget about faux-Weimar bars, this here is a true throwback to Berlin’s '90s squat history, which saw the East rapidly depopulated, then repopulated by punks, anarchists and activists who reclaimed all the crumbling buildings after the wall fell, carving out a playground for alternative lifestyles. The few remaining squats are now tourist sites, but Supamolly soldiers on as a punk music venue, bar, cinema and general activist meeting point. You’re more likely to encounter itinerant South American musicians there these days though, but an old-guard of Berlin punks still turns out for the frequent ska and hardcore gigs. It still retains its grimy charm, the walls daubed with graffiti and the candlelit bar welcomes all for cheap beer at all hours of the night.
