The best sausage rolls in Australia

Kenilworth Bakery, QLD

If you’re craving the crème de la crème of sausage rolls, you’ll want to head to Kenilworth Bakery in Queensland. Recently voted home to Australia’s best sausage roll in 2024, this family-run bakery cranks out hundreds of pies, pastries, doughnuts and bread loaves daily – all baked in its original World Heritage-listed shop. While Kenilworth is best known for its cream-stuffed or coffee-filled doughnuts, the unsung hero is its house-made sausage roll. The bakery even runs a one-kilogram sausage roll challenge, where anyone who can finish the family-of-five-sized roll in one sitting receives all their money back. Howzat!

Trust us, it’s worth lining up for a taste of Bourke Street Bakery’s legendary pork and fennel sausage roll. With 14 locations across the city, this rustic bakery has been a cornerstone of Sydney’s baked goods scene for more than 20 years. Their crowd-favourite pork and fennel sausage roll was voted the best in NSW at Wotif’s 2024 Uniquely Aussie Awards – and it's also Time Out Sydney's Food and Drink Editor, Avril Treasure's top pick. Bourke Street’s lamb, almond and harissa, or vegan eggplant and chickpea rolls are equally addictive. We won’t judge if you grab one of each.
