In the 1980s, before all the airports became malls, the refurbished Union Station assembled a lively range of boutiques and cafés beneath its soaring, coffered vaults. Thus the future of this magnificent building, under threat of demolition due to the long-term decline in the numbers of rail passengers, was ensured. Before traveling you can shop at several gift shops, bookshops and chocolatiers as well as an eclectic mix of stores such as Rosetta Stone for language learning packs or Appalachian Spring for handmade crafts and ceramics. You can also get your shoes polished, your eyebrows done or your jewelry and watches fixed.
