At first glance, the Ugly Mug is a neighborhood pub with plenty of beer (20-plus on tap) and sports TV (five flat-screens). Attracting both old timers and new college grads, the Mug is undoubtedly a popular local watering hole, but it’s not the beer alone that’s roping them in—it’s the food. Offering brunch, pizza and sandwiches it departs from standard bar grub, offering a twist on some of the classics: an elegant eggs benedict and egg Chesapeake—poached egg, crab meat and hollandaise sauce. For a really healthy option the huevos rancheros have diced tomatoes, green pepper, onions and so on, and are followed with fresh fruit.
