Boston sports fans are notoriously dedicated to their teams. The owners of Dirty Water, a Boston-loyal sports bar on H. Street, took this to new heights when they offered to comp every patron’s bar tab if the New England Patriots beat the Cincinatti Bengals on Sunday. According to a report in The Boston Globe, the bar ended up covering about $6,000 worth of drinks after the Pats’ surprise win.

It all started when the bar made an Instagram post announcing that “If the Pats win, everyone’s bar tab is on the house.” The bar was packed, general manager Rachel Hynes tells The Globe. She says the bar’s owners initially put the Patriots' chances of winning between 20 and 25%, but that it soon became clear the game was turning in their favor thanks to some solid offensive plays. “There were a couple plays towards the middle of the fourth quarter where I looked at the owner and said ‘We better start comping,’” Hynes told the paper.

The Globe reports that by Sunday night, the bar had covered individual tabs that ranged up to $250, and about $6,000 total in drinks. Despite the high payout amount, Hynes said the episode was a win for everyone involved, because the bar received some publicity and fans were happy.

If you have the same level of belief in the Patriots, you can take advantage of another deal Dirty Water is running when the team faces the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday at 1pm.—they're offering $30 open bar tabs. But it seems those who are counting on running up a big tab for free are out of luck, because Hynes tells The Globe that some of these tabs will be paid for if the team wins, but not every one.
