Everyone can do with a good cry every now and then. Whether you’re dealing with a loss, frustration at work or just the state of…everything, letting it all out with a mighty sob can really help. D.C. is full of quiet places to reflect and silently shed a tear, but what if you want to bawl in public, but not draw attention to yourself? Fortunately, commenters over at r/washingtondc on Reddit are quite the experts on this topic.

A good car cry is ideal, given that you can accentuate the experience with the perfect sad song, and one commenter identifies the Trader Joe’s parking lot as a good spot. Because you can grab some ice cream when you’re done, of course.

Cemeteries are high on the list for many commenters, as spectators will assume you’re crying over someone who’s recently passed. The city’s public Throne toilets receive top marks too—just make sure you’re done in 10 minutes before the doors automatically open.

For a big group cry, a Washington Wizards game is high on the list, because, well, the Wizards.

Many of the commenters recommend the D.C. Metro, even going so far as to declare Metro-based crying a “true DC experience.” The consensus is that the Red Line is the best setting, offering a melancholy backdrop for your sobs as you pass through dimly lit tunnels.
