Solo travel is on the rise as more people seek out new experiences as a party of one. When you’re your best travel and dining companion, why bring someone else into the mix? To inspire solo travelers, Kayak and OpenTable have launched a solo travel and dining guide backed by data-driven insights. The guide names our fine city as the number one destination for solo travelers.

When you really think about it, many of D.C.’s top attractions are best enjoyed alone. For one thing, it’s easier to navigate crowds when you’re not trying to keep track of someone else. But when you’re solo, you can better focus on and appreciate our museums, monuments, art and other attractions.

In conjunction with Kayak’s rankings, OpenTable has compiled the best restaurants for solo dining in these destinations. The top restaurant picks for solo dining in D.C. include Bistro Parc du Jour District Wharf, Cafe du Parc, Tabard Inn, Via Sophia and Ted’s Bulletin.

Following D.C. in the top five best destinations for solo travel are Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Salt Lake City. The full list of the 15 best destinations for solo travelers, and their respective recommended restaurants for solo diners, can be found here.
