The bar at Riggs Washington DC has become a destination of its own. Situated in an old bank vault, Silver Lyan is known for its artful cocktails and luxe vibes that attract a glam clientele. It's the first U.S. bar from famed British bar mind Ryan Chetiyawardana.
The vibe: Luxe and intimate, like a special night out. Spots inside the chicly decorated space are coveted, but the experience feels worth it. The dark interior is filled with velvet couches, mirrors and other shiny surfaces. This is one place that tends to draw real VIPs (sorry, politicos) so dress up because you never know which celeb or power player will stop by after their show or event.
The drink: The menu here spans high and low(er) end. Home of a $49 cinnamon and orange inflected espresso martini, Silver Lyan is also known for its high-end (and delicious) jello shots. Each cocktail is artfully considered and the menu is filled with concoctions that use seasonal and local ingredients. Peruse the ever-changing menu, or stick with a classic like the Silver Service Martini. I'm partial to the Tots and Shots combos, a pairing that goes down easy; try lemon drop or green tea shot and chase it with tater tots and buttermilk ranch dip.
The food: For eating you'll find refined takes on favorite bar snacks. I tend to go for little, shareable things with dips to really let the cocktails shine like the everything pretzel bites or pizza spring rolls.
Time Out tip: Watch for special popup experiences at Silver Lyan. One past memorable experience? A secret popup inside a small bank vault where you could listen to records.
