There are conflicting definitions as to what actually constitutes the National Mall, DC’s most famous bit of green space—it has been defined as stretching from Constitution and Pennsylvania Avenues to 1st Street NW to Independence and Maryland Avenues and 14th Street NW, and again, more broadly as the grounds of the U.S. Capitol west to the Potomac and then from the Jefferson Memorial to Consitution Avenue. Whatever its official boundaries, it's surrounded by many of the nation's most popular museums and is host to a number of major local events on the DC calendar, including concerts and graduation ceremonies.
