Sitting on a hill above Alexandria, in the imagined style of the ancient Pharos of Alexandria, the George Washington Masonic National Memorial is in striking contrast to the general’s more famous tower across the river in DC. Masonic memorabilia related to US presidents who were also Freemasons includes a reconstruction of the lodge hall Washington attended. The view from the top of the monument (only accessible as part of a guided tour) is impressive.
