Vienna's best Airbnbs

1. The retro apartment in Alliiertenviertel

This retro Airbnb in Vienna is only 20 minutes away from the city center by public transport and is situated right by the Danube River. It's super cozy, modern, and stylish, giving you the experience that Vienna is known for. Sleeping two guests in a double bed, it's perfect for a romantic trip to the city. The Airbnb has everything you'll need, from a fully equipped kitchen to a workspace, in case you can't be away from your work emails (come on, it's your holiday, relaaax). The decor is bright, homely, and very cool, it will feel like your home away from home, only better ...

What’s the budget range? So cheap and luxurious, we had to blink twice.

What’s it like to stay here? Public transport into the city centre is super easy and locally, you can walk to most places with ease.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1.5 baths. Sleeps 2.

It's always a fun idea to stay somewhere a little out of the ordinary to make your visit that bit more unique. This apartment is the backdrop for those who want to keep it playful and cosy. Everything from the checkered rug to the blue ceiling is effortlessly cool. Not to mention, the history on your doorstep - you've got views of the Flakturms from the living room. Pretty cool. You're also in the perfect location for a bit of tranquillity while being an easy 10-minute tram ride away from the centre.

3. The historic apartment near the Danube

Who doesn't love a modern twist on a classic? If you ask us, this apartment is the perfect blend of historic charm and contemporary chic: it's got the quintessential high ceilings, large windows, and walls lined with antique paintings in gold frames, accompanied by calming mint green and pistachio accents - such a nice change from your stereotypical beige colour scheme.

What’s the budget range? Pretty affordable.

What’s it like to stay here? Walkability and comfort go hand in hand at this apartment.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1 bath. Sleeps 4.

4. The Oriental-spired butterfly suite in Meidling

Puccini is pretty much the only operatic composer not to have a connection with Vienna, but if he were to pitch up in the city in the 2020s, then he might well fancy staying here. This flamboyantly decorated apartment in the 12th district's calling card is surely the gold feature wall in the living space. But it’s also worth considering for its great location between the Old Town, Schönbrunn Palace and Wiener Naschmarket. Oh, and the authentically 1970s orange bathroom is a treat too.

What’s the budget range? All the luxuries without the fortune – from £54 a night.

What’s it like to stay here? The unique mix of retro and oriental interiors is a real treat. Topped off by cheap parking bays and public transport links.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1 bath. Sleeps 4.

5. The blu-belles apartment walking distance to the centre

This achingly classy apartment is located a stone’s throw from the Innerestadt - but you wouldn’t necessarily guess that from how tranquil it is. Thanks to its lovely courtyard setting, this property promises you a good night’s sleep, while still providing excellent access to all the central Vienna attractions you could want. Start the day off with a stroll in Grünoases Stadtpark, just across the road, and then hit the Ringstrasse like you mean it.

What’s the budget range? Super affordable and well looked after.

What’s it like to stay here? A roomy and elegant base in the heart of the city – walking distance from the local park and close proximity to downtown.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1.5 baths. Sleeps 4.

6. The modern studio in the edgy Margareten

This homely flat is located a little bit further from the centre than some others. But don’t let that put you off - excellent transport links mean you’ll be in central Vienna in less than 15 minutes. The owners of this place have taken some risks with the decor, and it’s paid off. Pops of lime green offset a neutral palette of cream and black, and a set of skeletal black chairs creates a pleasingly ghostly ambience.

What’s the budget range? A pleasantly low-cost stay.

What’s it like to stay here? There's a very cosy, modern feel. Plus, you're just a quick train ride to the centre.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1 bath. Sleeps 3.

7. The pretty in pink apartment in Leopoldstadt

This delightfully pink home is located just across the river from the Innerestadt in Volkertviertel. With one double bedroom, it’s the ideal place to spend a romantic long weekend in the city. The highlight is surely that millennial pink living room where stylish post-war modernism is combined with playful femininity. Pour yourself a long drink, grab a book and while away the early evening hours on the sofa before heading out for dinner.

What’s the budget range? A cheap and cheerful couple's stay.

What’s it like to stay here? With restaurants and a local market within walking distance, this is another side of Venice to explore.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1 bath. Sleeps 2.

8. The eco-chic Austrian home in Kaisermühlen

Just one look at the photos and it shouldn’t surprise you to know that this eco-apartment by the Danube is owned and designed by a local artist. It accommodates four people and - unlike most places you could stay in the city - gives you access to a gorgeous garden. Inside, you’ll appreciate the tiny flourishes of colour, texture and pattern. Outside, you’ll discover your own green oasis for enjoying a springtime breakfast or an evening cocktail.

What’s the budget range? Affordable, but with a five-day minimum stay.

What’s it like to stay here? A little slice of nature from big city life.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1 bath. Sleeps 3.

9. The Serail homestead in Meidling

This snug apartment is in Vienna’s 12th district, which makes it sound like it’s in the middle of nowhere. In actual fact, it’s nicely sandwiched between the Old Town and Empress Sisi’s old haunt, the Schönbrunn Palace. This one made the cut because of that excellent use of turquoise (hard colour to get right) and that rather strange gold palm tree table accessory. We are always here for an unusual gold palm tree table accessory.

What’s the budget range? Splendidly cheap nights in Vienna, here we come!

What’s it like to stay here? Public transport lives nearby, while the need to leave your apartment feels less once you experience how unique it is.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1 bath. Sleeps 3.

10. The charming old apartment in Reindorf

Situated between the Ringstrasse and the Schönbrunn Palace, this positively blooming apartment is on the 3rd floor of a 1912 Vienna tenement house. It’s been stylishly decorated to include some bold flourishes - we love the bird wallpaper and the repeated use of white and blue throughout. The best thing about it is the way it retains all these little hints of ornate, historic Vienna while still keeping the whole place feeling fresh, modern and not over-fussy. Another plus is that it’s super close to the Westbahnhof, making transport connections a doddle.

What’s the budget range? Just as easy on the eye as it is on your wallet – very backpacker-friendly.

What’s it like to stay here? Although you're in the heart of Vienna, you've got your own little respite. Best of both worlds.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1 bath. Sleeps 4.

11. The design-centric loft in Leopoldstadt

Rest your head in this former factory-gone-stylish architect loft situated in the 2nd district – home of the famous Riesenrad Ferris wheel – with a charming private garden. Though compact, the loft is cleverly designed to make the space feel calming and open, with a kitchen/dining space, study, anteroom and bathroom. Our favourite part is the white high-panelled ceilings that really add an artistic touch. Around the corner, you'll find Augarten Park, U2 and Praterstern for easy access to the rest of the city.

What’s the budget range? Dirt cheap.

What’s it like to stay here? The perfect little oasis – close to local cafes, and a walkable distance to the main attractions, or an easy train ride.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1 bath. Sleeps 2.

12. The elegant one-bed in Biedermeier

Up on the first floor of a charming mid-17th-century, a stay at this chic, modern apartment is yours for the taking. A cool perk of the floor plan is that the bedroom faces the courtyard, offering you a nice view of the surrounding architecture, particularly charming in summer. Style-wise, the apartment is a mix of contemporary design and vintage upholstery, making it timeless and chic. When you want to explore you have the Historic Centre and Mariahilferstrasse on your doorstep. 10/10 for walkability and vibes.

What’s the budget range? Pretty decent for a five-night stay, especially if you split the bill.

What’s it like to stay here? Vienna's hip Biedermeier is a great area to base yourself for the buzz, historic buildings and proximity to the MuseumsQuarter.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1 bath. Sleeps 2.

13. The bright bungalow with a huge garden in 11th district

Want to live like a local? Then enjoy a kip in this contemporary grey-scale bungalow with a beautiful back garden, set in the Simmering area in a charming residential area with a lot of green space and good travel links to the centre via S-Bahn. Here, you'll have all the creature comforts you need while holidaying in Vienna including, spacious rooms, a living room, a well-equipped kitchen, luggage storage, a washer and a lush garden.

What’s the budget range? So affordable.

What’s it like to stay here? The apartment is the perfect balance between convenience, comfort and style. The garden is also a real advantage if you're travelling with small kids.

Rooms: 2 beds, 1.5 baths. Sleeps 4.
