The coolest hotel keys in the U.S.

This fun hotel chain focuses its locations on cities with nearby colleges or universities. For this Palo Alto locale, that’s Stanford University—and Reese Witherspoon was one of the graduates appearing on their rotating collection of keycards that feature the student ID card of famous alumni.

In this southwest-themed boutique hotel, your room key is attached to an adorable, miniature colorful cowboy boot. Sedona’s known for its beautiful red rock landscape, twisted Juniper trees and reputation as a spiritual energy hotspot.

In an awesome throwback, this key card looks like an old-school music cassette you can pop right into your boombox. It won't work but that's okay, you can still find awesome music throughout the hotel.

Evoking the world of the roaring twenties, this room key has a hand-stamped Italian leather key fob and brass buckle. The attached vintage skeleton keys are sourced from antique stores all over the globe.

Harking to the timber of the hotel's name, this key card is made of wood, inspired by the surrounding redwood forest. The resort is in Sonoma Wine Country with a wooded campus and ocean views so you can bliss out.

Yes, the hotel is associated with Baccarat, the French crystal company that traces its ties to King Louis XV. The leather piece’s shape echoes the octagonal base of Baccarat’s Harcourt glass design from 1841 and shows the company logo with three different vessels: a carafe, goblet and wine glass.

These wooden key cards in a unique disk shape, tucked into a square envelope, are as sustainable as it gets: recycled and reusable, made from birch, basswood, black walnut, sapele (an African wood species), and cherry. This resort brand is nature-based with sustainable sanctuaries around the world.

This retro hotel offers keycards that resemble the old-school plastic ones, except there’s no need for an actual physical key to be attached, as was the case in the old days. In this seaside town halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the compass design incorporated into the key is a reminder of all the places in the world where dolphins are abundant. Cambria has an interesting maritime history, including citizens rescuing sailors from the SS Montebello after it was torpedoed off the coast by a Japanese submarine in 1941.

This beautiful fob is a white disk with gold embossed lettering showing the Lower Manhattan hotel's name with the distinctive "capital case" of the letter L, within a heraldic shield shape. Attached at the top is another tiny gold disk with the room number.

The “naked experience” hotel (they want you to sleep nude) has a very cool key card etched with a pineapple design. Hopefully, your stay is as succulent and fortifying as this tropical fruit suggests!

This glamping resort offers an interesting key to get into your yurt, trailer, cabin, porch house or tent—a key with a leather “arrow.” Drippings Springs is Texas’s first Dark Sky Community, so you can key into plenty of great stargazing.

These tiny disks are the room key tucked into a soft bag, along with a jasper stone that check-in staff encourages you to rub for good luck. It feels like someone has given you a bag of treasure at this hotel with incredible mountain views.

This Disneyland hotel has a relatively mundane keycard...except that it sparkles like the sugar dust of your candy cane. Disney is always good about the details; your stay will incorporate a lot of such small but significant touches.
