In Hulu’s new binge-worthy comedy Deli Boys, the Dar brothers must contend with the shocking truth about their late father: not only was he the proud mogul of ABC Deli, but he also ran a secret criminal empire. Now, they’ve inherited both his deli and his criminal ties. What could go wrong?
Well, with a whopping 96% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, it seems that things are going right for this comedy gem. The critical love is also being shown for series’ stars Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh, who play Mir and Raj Dar, respectively. Their chemistry is a huge part of the show’s comic (and soft-at-the-center) sensibility.
To celebrate the show’s premiere, Hulu brought the underground world of Deli Boys to life with The Traveling Deli, a pop-up experience that resembled a fully lived-in space, complete with flickering neon lights, cracked tile floors and questionably-filled pickle jars. Stepping inside, we found chaos and criminal antics alongside exclusive merch, specialty drinks and a snack menu that probably raised a few eyebrows (in a good way).
The Deli Boys tour kicked off with stops in New York City’s Union Square and outside Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks were playing the 76ers—a perfect setting since the show is set in Philly. The tour next hit Austin, TX, landing on Congress Ave to add energy and excitement to SXSW. The final stop saw The Traveling Deli arrive in Chicago just in time for the Chicago River to turn green for one of its most heralded holidays: St. Patrick’s Day weekend. In all three cities, the tour brought the fun and chaos that’s at the heart of Deli Boys.
