If you don’t fly often, you may wonder if it’s worth it to sign up for a frequent flyer program. Well, American Airlines just introduced a new way to redeem miles that makes their program even more valuable for members. You can now use your hard-earned miles to purchase tickets to concerts and sporting events through a new partnership with Ticketmaster.

Head on over to the AAdvantage Events website and you’ll find that the entire Ticketmaster inventory is available. Tickets are purchased directly from Ticketmaster through this site, so you’ll be getting the same price you’d get if you purchase on the Ticketmaster website.

So how does it work? When you log in to your account and go to the AAdvantage Events site, just search for an event and you’ll see the price for tickets and the number of miles needed to purchase a ticket. Whether you’re looking for a ticket to The Lion King in Houston or the New York Liberty vs Chicago Sky, you can redeem your miles to purchase. Or you can earn miles when you purchase tickets—the portal shows you how many miles you’ll earn for your purchase.

You can select your home city on the website, check out popular events and save favorite events for future purchases, making it even easier to earn miles.

While savvy points-cruncher The Points Guy suspects the value of purchasing tickets with miles is less than when used to purchase flights (valuations fluctuate), this new feature is definitely a plus for those who aren’t saving up their miles for future flights.
