According to the 50,000 people who voted in 2022’s Wanderlust Travel Awards, the most desirable city outside of Europe is none other than roaring New Orleans. The awards, which rank top destinations around the world, have taken place for the past 21 years and are run by the magazine Wanderlust, which has covered adventurous and authentic travel since 1993.

Locals and government officials are delighted about this new distinction. “It’s very exciting for New Orleans to receive this kind of recognition,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “We can’t wait to welcome all these visitors and show them all the ways you can Feed Your Soul in Lousiana,” he continued.

Perhaps it’s the unparalleled jazz scene in the heart of the city. Or maybe it’s the yearly Mardi Gras celebrations that have visitors flocking to NOLA in droves. Or even still, New Orleans’ renowned culinary landscape entices vacationers year in and year out. Whether it’s a combination of all of the above, or something more specific, the culture you can experience in the Big Easy is a magnet for travelers and it comes as no surprise that this lively city has received such prestigious recognition.
