Ski towns like Park City, UT, and Aspen, CO, have long captivated the imagination with their picturesque snow-covered landscapes and winter wonderland vibes. With jaw-dropping views and opulent mansions, these destinations are synonymous with luxury. But which ski town takes the crown as the most expensive?

A recent study by Realtor.com ranks the most lavish ski towns in the U.S., based on the percentage of real estate listings priced above $5 million. Leading the pack is Telluride, CO, a town where luxury meets breathtaking natural beauty.

Telluride tops the list as the most extravagant ski town, with more than 38% of its homes-87 o f226 properties listed-priced above $5 million. Telluride offers unparalleled access to skiing and outdoor activities, and the once under-the-radar town gained popularity during the pandemic as a tranquil alternative to more crowded resorts. Today, it’s a haven for celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise, Jerry Seinfeld and Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. Telluride Ski Resort boasts over 2,000 acres of terrain, surrounded by the highest concentration of 13,000- and 14,000-foot peaks in North America. With 300 inches of annual snowfall, it’s a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts.

Aspen claims the second spot with nearly 37% of its real estate listings priced above $5 million. Known for its celebrity allure, Aspen is home to Hollywood heavyweights like Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn and Kevin Costner. Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk together offer over 5,500 acres of world-class skiing and snowboarding terrain. Aspen combines pristine slopes with a vibrant social scene, making it a perennial favorite for the wealthy and well-connected.

Coming in third is Teton Village, WY, where 33% of homes exceed the $5 million mark. Situated at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, this town offers some of the most challenging and renowned ski terrain in the world. Jackson Hole is famous for its expert-level runs and an impressive 450 inches of snowfall each year. Beyond the slopes, Teton Village provides upscale shopping, fine dining and a true sense of rustic luxury.

Western ski towns reign supreme, with seven more towns on the list of the ten most expensive ski towns. The sole East Coast representative is Cashiers, NC underscoring the West’s appeal as the ultimate ski retreat for luxury seekers.
