We know all about each state's favorite holiday gift, festive recipe and the most popular Christmas treat across the land. But now, Instagram has delved into its own data to provide us with some information about the most sought-after cookie in each state.

The social media platform sourced data based on the number of likes and mentions of various cookies over the past month from in-feed and Instagram Story posts. The result? Peanut butter and sugar cookies reign supreme overall, the most popular choice across ten states respectively. Landing in spot number two is the shortbread cookie, mentioned by eight states as their favorite overall.
"The champion cookie flavors include peanut butter, shortbread, crinkle, oatmeal, sugar cookies, gingerbread, snickerdoodles and the classic chocolate chip, which surprisingly only reigned popularity in Illinois," writes Instagram in the post accompanying the release of the map. Picture us surprised at the rather non-popularity of the chocolate chip cookie.
